Where we bring the deceased from
A person can die anywhere: while working abroad, on holiday or on a visit to their children. That is why we do not limit ourselves to the countries listed on this site. Most European countries, and also Turkey, Georgia, the USA, Canada and Egypt, have pages of their own: you can see them on the Countries page. This page is about the rest of the world.
- Thailand
- The Maldives
- Indonesia, including Bali
- The Dominican Republic
- India
- and other countries in Asia, Africa and the Americas: just ask
For distant countries we quote the price separately: it depends on the city, the flight and the local requirements. Tell us the country and the city, and we will work out the journey.
We work out your price
Call or leave your number.
How we work when the country is far away
The call
You tell us the country, the city and where the deceased is now. We ask which documents you already have and whether there was an insurance policy.
Price and plan
We tell you the price for the whole journey home and explain what happens next.
We do it all ourselves
We arrange the release of the deceased, the preparation and the coffin ourselves, following that country's rules.
Documents
We obtain the local documents and have them certified and translated. We coordinate everything with the Ukrainian consulate.
Route
We agree the documents with the countries of departure, transit and destination, and book the flight.
The Ukrainian border
We complete customs clearance with the required set of documents.
Home
We take the deceased to your town and hand them over to the family, or bring them straight to the farewell.
Documents when the country is far away
Local documents differ from country to country, and they are called different things. Ukrainian border requirements, though, are the same wherever the deceased comes from: a death document, a certificate of no prohibited items, certified for Ukraine, and a hermetic metal coffin under official seal. The full list is on the document handling page.
Apostille or legalisation
- Ukraine is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention (1961). Documents from countries that are parties to it are certified with an apostille, without consular legalisation.
- If the country is not a party to the convention and no treaty waives certification, the documents are legalised through the consulate.
Translation
- Documents in a foreign language are translated into Ukrainian, and the translation is certified.
- We order the translation. All we need from you is photos of the documents you already have.
Local rules in distant countries
The Strasbourg Agreement on the transfer of corpses applies only between European countries. In distant countries there is no single document like a laissez-passer: local rules apply, and each country requires its own. Either way, the Ukrainian border checks the documents under Ukrainian law, so we collect both the local documents and those that Ukraine requires.
The Ukrainian consulate
The death of a citizen of Ukraine abroad is registered by the consul of Ukraine. On the day you contact us we will tell you which office serves your country and whether you need to go there in person. More in the article on the Ukrainian consulate after a death abroad.
How we bring the deceased: by air, then in our vehicle
From Thailand, the Maldives, Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, India and other distant countries the journey includes a flight. The aircraft brings the deceased to an airport near Ukraine (Warsaw, Rzeszów or Chișinău), and from there our vehicle takes them to your town.
The body's journey home to Ukraine takes from 24 hours after collection. From distant countries and with complicated documents it takes longer. We will tell you the exact time after we have spoken.
What to know about air transport of the deceased
- Airlines carry the coffin in the cargo hold of a passenger aircraft, or on a cargo flight.
- Some airlines accept only embalmed bodies.
- Whether a coffin is accepted depends on the type of aircraft, so we agree the documents with all the countries on the route before we book.

Questions about repatriation from other countries
My country is not on the list. Can you help?
Yes. We bring the deceased home from distant countries too: Thailand, the Maldives, Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, India and others. Call us and tell us the country and the city, and we will give you the price and the route.
How much does it cost to bring the deceased home from a distant country?
We will give you the exact amount during the call: it depends on the country, the city and the route. The price covers the whole journey home. A funeral in Ukraine is separate. The price for an urn with ashes from another country to Ukraine is from €700.
How long does it take?
From distant countries it usually takes longer than the minimum of 24 hours after collection: most of the time goes on the local documents and on agreeing the transport with the airline. We will tell you the exact time by phone once we know the country and the city.
Are there direct flights to Ukraine?
No. The aircraft lands at an airport near Ukraine (Warsaw, Rzeszów or Chișinău), and our vehicle takes the deceased on from there.
The country is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. What does that change?
Instead of an apostille, the documents have to be legalised through the consulate, unless an international treaty waives this. That takes longer, so we start as soon as you call. We will tell you what your country requires during our first conversation.
Do I need to fly there myself?
In most cases you do not: there we do the work ourselves. But in some countries the process cannot go ahead without a relative's signature or power of attorney. We will tell you at once, so that you do not spend time and money on the journey for nothing. What can be done from home is explained in the article If the family cannot travel abroad.
Is embalming required?
It depends on the country and the airline: some carriers accept only embalmed bodies, and the requirements of different countries can even contradict each other. We find this out in advance. More on the body preparation page.
Does insurance cover the transport?
It may, if the policy includes transport of the body. Show us the policy (a photo is enough) and we will deal with the insurer ourselves. Sometimes an insurer pays only as far as the border; we will tell you in advance what is left.
What should I do first?
The first steps are at the top of this page. In detail, see the page What to do if a loved one dies abroad.
Can an urn with ashes be brought home?
Yes. From other countries, the price of transporting an urn to Ukraine is from €700. The Strasbourg Agreement does not cover ashes, so no laissez-passer is issued for an urn. Local documents for the urn and Ukrainian documents are needed. About urn transport →
