Repatriation of the deceased from Ireland to Ukraine
from €3,500 including documents, the coffin and transport to your town. We will give you the exact price within 5 minutes.
Summary. The price of bringing the deceased home from Ireland is from €3,500: it covers the documents, the coffin and the road to your town, while the funeral in Ukraine is a separate service. Ireland is an island, so we more often choose an air leg (from 2.5 hours), less often a ferry and then the road. A coroner is involved in every case: the coroner's removal certificate is required, and the body is embalmed for the journey. The body's journey home to Ukraine takes from 24 hours after collection. Call us and within 5 minutes you will have the exact price.

What we do for you
Ireland is an island on the edge of Europe, and the road from there to Ukraine is long. Irish rules also add a step of their own: a coroner has to be involved. We take on the whole journey, from the first conversation with the hospital to handing the deceased over to the family in Ukraine. We speak Ukrainian, English, Polish and German, so you or the hospital can call us in English.
We listen
We ask where the death occurred and where the deceased is now. We tell you what to do first and give you the price.
Registering the death
The death is registered with the Civil Registration Service. The registrar then issues the death certificate.
The coroner
We notify the coroner for the district where the deceased is, and obtain the coroner's certificate for taking the body out of Ireland.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Dublin
We obtain the embassy's permit to bring the body into Ukraine, and the legalisation of the certificate that the coffin contains no prohibited items. We translate the Irish documents.
Preparing the body
Embalming, a hermetic coffin with a metal lining, and sealing of the coffin.
The journey home
An air leg or a ferry, then the road. We accompany the deceased across the border and hand them over to the family in Ukraine.

Documents in Ireland
In Ireland the coroner must be notified every time a body is taken out of the country, whatever the cause of death. The coroner to contact is the one for the district where the body is. If the coroner has no questions about the cause of death, they issue a certificate that allows the body to be taken out of the country. We obtain this certificate.
Documents arranged in Ireland
- The death certificate. A registrar of the Civil Registration Service issues it once the death has been registered.
- The coroner's removal order (the coroner's permission to take the body out) or a non-infectious note (a certificate that the deceased had no infectious disease).
- The embalming certificate.
- Our declaration.
- The embassy permit, issued by the embassy of the destination country. For us that is the Embassy of Ukraine.
What Ukraine needs
- The Irish death certificate. It travels with the body to the border, together with its translation.
- A certificate that the coffin contains no prohibited items. The competent Irish authority issues it, and the Embassy of Ukraine in Dublin legalises it.
- A sealed, hermetic metal coffin. Coffins for transport from Ireland are made hermetic in any case; we make sure the coffin is sealed as well.
- A short customs statement in free form. We prepare the text.
A coroner's certificate is also needed when an urn with ashes is taken abroad instead of a body.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Ireland
In Ireland, consular matters for Ukrainian citizens are handled by the consular section of the Embassy of Ukraine in Dublin.
- It issues the embassy permit to bring the body into Ukraine. This permit is on the Irish list of documents for taking a body out of the country.
- It draws up the Ukrainian death certificate after the death has been registered. The first copy is free of consular fees.
- It legalises the Irish certificate that the coffin contains no prohibited items.
- It issues the document that the family takes to the social protection authorities to claim the funeral allowance.
The embassy should be told how and when the body will be transported, so that the authorities in Ukraine know in advance. We do this too. Irish documents for the consul must carry an apostille and be translated into Ukrainian. We arrange both the translation and the apostille ourselves, so you do not need to look for a translator. More in the article “The Ukrainian consulate when someone dies abroad”.
How we bring the deceased home from Ireland
From Ireland the deceased can be transported by air or by ferry, and then on by road. We choose the air leg more often: the deceased is flown on a cargo flight from Dublin to an airport near the Ukrainian border, and from there our specialist vehicle takes over. We do not promise direct flights to Ukraine. The ferry route is longer but sometimes more convenient. It depends on the city and on the family's wishes.
Where we collect from
We collect the deceased from Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford and from any other Irish town: from a hospital, a morgue or from another place where the deceased is. The county where the body lies decides which coroner has to be notified, so please name the town at once.
Timing. The air leg takes from 2.5 hours. The journey home takes from 24 hours after collection. The exact time depends on when the coroner issues the certificate and when the documents for Ukraine are ready.
Embalming and the coffin. For transport from Ireland the deceased is embalmed, and we arrange this. The coffin must meet the rules in Ireland. We prepare one that works both under those rules and at the Ukrainian border.

Ashes from Ireland: the way the urn comes home
An urn with ashes goes from Ireland to Ukraine by plane or by ferry, and then over land. We collect it from a crematorium or another place of storage in any Irish city.
In Ireland the coroner’s certificate is needed for an urn as well, not only for a body, and we arrange it.
The Ukrainian border asks for the death certificate and a certificate of no prohibited items from the authority of the country of death, legalised by the Embassy of Ukraine in Dublin. The written customs statement is ours to prepare.
The cost of bringing an urn home is from €700. More on the page “Urn transport” and in the article “Customs clearance of an urn with ashes”.
Price of repatriation from Ireland
What the price includes
The price includes:
- contact with the hospital and the morgue
- local, consular and border documents
- preparing the body for the journey
- hermetic coffin, soldered zinc liner
- sealing as the border requires
- transport by road, or part of the way by air, whichever is faster and better value for you
- handover to the family in your town
Farewell coffin: quoted separately.
What can change the price
The “from” price covers the whole journey of the deceased home. The route affects the sum most: an air leg or a ferry, followed by a long road journey. The city in Ireland decides which airport or port the deceased is taken to. The city in Ukraine and the choice of coffin also matter. A funeral in Ukraine is a separate service. We will give you the price of both routes when we talk. You can compare with other countries on the Prices page.

Questions about repatriation from Ireland
How much does it cost to bring the deceased home from Ireland?
From €3,500 for the whole journey home. The list above shows exactly what is included. The final sum depends on the city and the route, and we will give it to you when we talk.
How long does it take?
The body's journey home to Ukraine takes from 24 hours after collection, and the air leg takes from 2.5 hours. The total time depends on the registration of the death, the coroner's certificate and the documents for Ukraine. We run everything in parallel and keep you informed at every step.
Why is a coroner needed if the death was natural?
In Ireland the coroner is notified every time a body is taken out of the country, whatever the cause of death. It is a required step, not a sign of an investigation. If the coroner has no questions, they issue a certificate for the removal, and we move on.
What is needed from the family?
The passport or another identity document of the deceased, if you have it, and your contact details. We arrange the registration of the death, the papers for the coroner, embalming, the embassy permit and the legalisation ourselves. If an Irish office asks the relatives for something in person, we will explain what to do and how.
Do I need to travel to Ireland?
Usually not. We deal with the Irish services and the coroner, and stay in touch with you by phone and on Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram. When you need copies of documents, we send them on Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram. What can be done from home is covered in the article “If the family cannot travel abroad”.
Is embalming compulsory?
Yes. For transport from Ireland the deceased is embalmed. We arrange it, and the embalming certificate is part of the document package. More in the article on the coffin and embalming.
Air or ferry: which is better?
Air is faster: the air leg takes from 2.5 hours. A ferry followed by the road takes longer, but is sometimes more convenient. We will advise what suits your situation and give you the price of both.
The person had insurance. What should I do?
It depends on the policy, and on whether it includes transport of the body. Photograph the policy and send it to us: we will check the limits and speak to the insurer. Do not hire a local funeral home before the insurer has approved it, or the claim may be refused.
Which cities in Ireland do you collect from?
We collect from any city or county in Ireland. The location affects only the road to the airport or the port.
Can an urn with ashes be brought home?
Yes. A coroner's certificate is also needed to take ashes out of Ireland. An urn enters Ukraine under the same rules as a coffin: it needs the death certificate and the certificate that there are no prohibited items, legalised by the Embassy of Ukraine. The price is from €700. More on transporting an urn with ashes.
