In short. In Kenya, a death is registered using the passport and a burial permit, and the death certificate is issued in English. If the death is sudden or unnatural, an autopsy may be carried out first. The body is embalmed and placed in a sealed metal coffin. We transport the deceased by plane, with a stopover, to an airport in a country neighbouring Ukraine, and then by road.

Thank you. We will call you back. For urgent matters, please call: +380 77 882 77 77.

What should you do if someone dies in Kenya?
XREQUIEM handles the entire case for you together with a local funeral home in Kenya. Documents in Kenya are issued in English, so the language barrier is smaller, but the procedure has its own rules.
We listen and name the price
We ask in which town the death occurred, which hospital or mortuary the body is in, and what documents are already available. We fix the price in the contract.
We check whether there will be an autopsy
If the cause of death is unknown, sudden, violent or unnatural, an autopsy may be carried out in Kenya. Deaths outside a hospital are reported to the local police. You may sometimes be asked to pay for the autopsy in advance, even when a police investigation is under way. The post-mortem report is not usually given to the family; a lawyer may obtain a copy.
We register the death and obtain the certificate
A death is registered at the Kenyan Civil Registration Office or at a Huduma Centre. This requires the deceased’s passport and a burial permit. The Kenyan death certificate is issued in English and states the cause of death. We obtain several copies.
We translate and handle the case at the Ukrainian Embassy
We translate the Kenyan documents into Ukrainian. The consul registers the death of a Ukrainian citizen and certifies the documents for the Ukrainian border.
We prepare the body and the coffin for the journey
We have the body embalmed at the mortuary and placed in an airtight metal coffin: the Ukrainian border requires this, and it lets the body withstand the long journey with stopovers. The documents for export from Kenya are arranged by the local funeral home.

We bring them home
By plane with a stopover at an airport in a country neighbouring Ukraine, then in our own vehicle. We hand the body over to the family in your town.

- The consul registers the death of a Ukrainian citizen. The Kenyan death certificate is translated into Ukrainian for this.
- For the funeral allowance in Ukraine, the consul issues a certificate that the family submits to the social protection office.
- A certificate confirming that nothing has been placed inside the body or the coffin is issued by the authorities of the country of death, and the Ukrainian consulate certifies it. Without it, the body will not cross the Ukrainian border.

How to transport a body from Kenya to Ukraine
Where we collect the body from
We collect the body from Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, the coastal resorts and any other town in Kenya — from a hospital, mortuary or funeral home. On the ground, the case is handled by a Kenyan funeral home we work with. Tell us the town and we will tell you the route.
Plane plus car
There are no direct flights to Ukraine, so the body travels in the cargo hold with a stopover, to an airport in a country neighbouring Ukraine. From there, our vehicle takes the body to your town.
How long it takes
The timeframe depends on whether there was an autopsy and how quickly the certificate and burial permit are issued. We will give you the exact timeframe after our first conversation. We handle the Kenyan and Ukrainian parts in parallel.
