Summary. The Emirates are far away, so the journey home includes a flight: a plane to an airport in a country next to Ukraine, most often Poland, and then our vehicle to your town. In the UAE the body is not released or taken out of the country without letters from the police, and it is embalmed before the flight. We handle all the papers, the translations and the consulate in parallel.

What to do if someone has died in the UAE
It often happens on holiday or at work in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, when the family knows neither Arabic nor the local rules. In the Emirates we organise everything on the spot ourselves, and XREQUIEM manages the whole case from start to finish. Our office in Drohobych is available around the clock: call us and we will tell you what to do first.
We listen and give you the price
We ask which emirate and city the body is in now and which documents already exist. At the same time we give you the amount to your town.
The police and the state morgue
If the person died outside a hospital, the police are called. They write the first report and take the body to the state morgue.
An autopsy, if one is ordered
It is possible when the cause of death is unknown, sudden, unnatural or violent. In that case the body is released only with the permission of the public prosecutor. We stay in touch with the authorities and will tell you when it is released.
The death certificate
It is issued by the health authorities in Arabic, in English or in both. The death is then registered, and the certificate is attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Letters from the police and the consulate
The police issue separate no-objection letters: to release the body, to embalm it and to take it out of the country. The Ukrainian consulate issues its own letter for taking the body out.
Embalming and the coffin
The body is embalmed at a state facility. It is then placed in a hermetic zinc coffin, which is sealed.
We take the deceased home
By air to an airport in a country next to Ukraine, then by road in our vehicle. We hand the deceased over to the family wherever you tell us.

Documents needed to bring the deceased home from the UAE
Here is what the papers are and who issues them. The procedure differs slightly from one emirate to another, so we confirm the full list for your case on the spot.
What the UAE issues
- Police report: if the death happened outside a hospital.
- Death certificate: in Arabic, in English or in both. It is registered by the Ministry of Health and attested, together with its translation, by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- No-objection letters from the police: separate ones to release the body, to embalm it and to take it out of the country.
- Embalming certificate: issued by the facility where the body was embalmed. In Dubai, embalming and the permit to take the body out are handled by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
- The carrier's documents: the air waybill for the coffin.
We go through these administrative steps on the family's behalf.
What we take on
- We obtain the police report, the certificate and the letters.
- We arrange the embalming and the coffin.
- We book the air transport and obtain the air waybill.
- We translate the documents into Ukrainian, certify them and submit them to the Ukrainian consulate.
- We draw up the customs statement for the Ukrainian border and attach the documents to it.
What we need from you
- The deceased's passport, or a photo of it.
- Your passport and a document showing that you are a relative.
- A power of attorney for us. We will tell you how to draw it up.
The general list of papers is on the Documents page. What to do in the first hours is on the page What to do if a loved one dies abroad.
The Embassy and consulate of Ukraine in the UAE
The Embassy of Ukraine is in Abu Dhabi and the consulate is in Dubai. We contact the mission closest to the place of death. The UAE authorities ask for a no-objection letter from the consulate before the body can be taken out, so we submit the documents there as early as possible.
- Without the certificate of no prohibited items in the body and the coffin, issued by an authority of the country of death and certified by the Ukrainian consulate, the body will not be allowed across the Ukrainian border.
- How the consul registers the death, which papers are needed for the funeral allowance in Ukraine and whether a consular fee applies, we confirm before filing. The general rules for all countries are in the article below.
Usually you do not need to travel to the Emirates: we prepare and submit the documents to the consulate. More in the article The Ukrainian consulate when someone dies abroad.
How we bring the deceased home from the UAE
The Emirates are a long way from Ukraine, so the journey includes a flight. Planes are not flying to Ukraine at the moment, so there is no direct flight. We choose how to travel to suit your case.
Where we collect from
We collect the deceased from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and from any other town in the UAE: from a hospital or a morgue. The country's main international airports are Dubai, Abu Dhabi (Zayed International) and Sharjah. Which one the flight leaves from depends on the city where the body is and on the flight. Name the city, and we will give you the route and the amount.
Plane plus vehicle
A plane to an airport in a country next to Ukraine, most often Poland. There the coffin is met by our vehicle, which takes it to your town.
How the coffin travels by air
Airlines carry the coffin in the cargo hold of a passenger aircraft or on a cargo flight. We agree the documents with every country involved before booking, so that the coffin is not held up at an airport.
How long it takes
The journey itself takes from 24 hours after collection. Most of the time usually goes on the police letters, an autopsy if one is ordered, and booking the flight.
The Ukrainian border accepts a body only in a hermetic metal coffin under official seal. Ours is a coffin with a soldered zinc liner. Customs clearance is done on a written statement with documents, which we prepare. More on the Air transport page.
What to know about the UAE
A few rules of the country that affect timing and papers. Sources: the UK government guidance for families “When someone dies in the United Arab Emirates” and the UAE government portal u.ae. The guidance is written for British families, so we confirm each point with the UAE authorities for your case.
- The cause of death on the certificate. UAE certificates do not always state the cause of death. Tell us at once if it is needed for insurance or an estate.
- The certificate first, then the journey. If the person is buried in the UAE, the certificate can be obtained after the burial. To take the body out of the country it is needed beforehand, so that is where we start.
- Cremation in the UAE. It is possible only for people who were not Muslim. There are crematoria at the Al Foah cemetery in Al Ain, in Sonapur (Jebel Ali, Dubai) and in Sharjah. Cremation requires a police letter, on the basis of which the municipality issues a permit.
- Different emirates, different procedures. The language of the certificate and the list of papers can differ from one emirate to another. We follow the procedure of the emirate where the death occurred.
How much does it cost to bring the deceased home from the UAE in 2026?

Questions about repatriation from the UAE
How much does it cost to bring the deceased home from the UAE?
From €4,000 for the whole journey home. Everything the price includes is listed above. What the price is made up of is explained in the article How much it costs to bring a body home to Ukraine from abroad.
How long does repatriation from the UAE take?
The papers take the longest: the police letters, the death certificate, the autopsy results if there was one, the consulate and the flight. We run them in parallel.
Is an autopsy compulsory?
Not always. According to government guidance for families, an autopsy is possible when the cause of death is unknown, sudden, unnatural or violent. Every death outside a hospital is referred to the police, and then the body is released only with the permission of the public prosecutor. We will tell you when the body is released.
What language is the death certificate in the UAE?
It is issued in Arabic, in English or in both. For Ukraine we translate the certificate into Ukrainian and certify it, and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs adds its own attestation stamp.
Is embalming needed?
Yes. To take a body out of the UAE it is embalmed at a state facility, which issues a certificate. We arrange this. More about preparing the body.
Which documents do you need from the family?
The deceased's passport (or a photo of it), your passport, a document showing that you are related and a power of attorney for us. We take care of the UAE documents, the translations and the consulate.
Do I have to fly to the Emirates?
In most cases, no. We gather the papers on the spot ourselves and keep you updated by phone or on Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram. If we need your signature in person, we will tell you in advance. More in the article If the family cannot travel abroad.
What kind of coffin is needed?
At the Ukrainian border, a hermetic metal coffin under official seal is required. We agree the airline's requirements in advance. Which coffins exist is on the Coffins page.
Will insurance cover the transport?
Yes, if the policy provides for transporting the body. Photograph the policy and send it to us: we will check the terms and contact the insurer ourselves. If the person worked in the Emirates, ask the employer too. Better not to pay for the transport yourself until the insurer has agreed, or the compensation may not be paid. More in the article Insurance and bringing a body home.
Can an urn with ashes be brought home from the UAE?
Yes. Transporting an urn costs from €800. In the UAE only people who were not Muslim are cremated. For the Ukrainian border an urn needs the death certificate and a certificate of no prohibited items certified by the consulate. More on the Urn transport page.
