Our fleet and funeral vehicles

The deceased does not travel home from abroad in an ordinary van, but in a specialist funeral vehicle: a closed interior, a loading deck that holds the coffin in place and, where needed, refrigeration.

We will give you the exact price of the transport within 5 minutes.

Which vehicle is needed

Different jobs call for different vehicles. A journey across several borders needs one kind; a ceremony at a church needs another.

Vehicles for international transport

A closed interior with a loading deck that holds the coffin in place, and a lining that is washed down between journeys. This is the vehicle that collects the deceased from the morgue abroad and brings them to Ukraine.

Vehicles with refrigeration

For long distances and warm weather. Some countries require a hermetically sealed coffin or refrigeration for a long journey without embalming.

Hearses for the farewell

For the ceremony in Ukraine: from the home or farewell hall to the church and on to the cemetery.

Transport for relatives

A bus for the family and guests: to the ceremony, to the cemetery, to the memorial meal and back.

Trolleys and loading decks

Hydraulic trolleys, so that the coffin is loaded and unloaded gently and smoothly, even in a narrow courtyard.

GRG group vehicles in Europe

Vehicles from our GRG group operate in various European countries, from Poland to Sweden. They collect the deceased wherever they are now and take them to the Ukrainian border, or to the airport if part of the journey is better made by air.

Why a specialist vehicle matters

Taking the deceased across borders is a task with strict rules, and it is far more than a delivery. Countries set requirements for the coffin and for the conditions of the journey, and the Ukrainian border lets the deceased through only in a hermetic metal coffin that has been put under official seal in the country of death. The vehicle has to hold that coffin still for the whole journey, so that the seals and seams stay intact.

For a long journey without embalming, some countries require a hermetically sealed coffin or refrigeration; there is an example on the “Road transport” page. That is why we use a vehicle with refrigeration for long routes.

  • The loading deck and its fastenings keep the coffin in place on any road.
  • A closed interior: nobody outside can see what is inside.
  • The interior is cleaned after every journey.
  • The drivers know the routes, the borders and the documents that customs requires.

Families sometimes ask whether it would be simpler to hire an ordinary van or to transport the deceased themselves. The risk is that at the border it is not only the coffin that is checked, but the documents too. Without the certificate of no prohibited items, legalised by the Ukrainian consulate, and without a hermetic coffin under official seal, the deceased may not be let through. Going back to the country of death for documents means lost days. So we prepare the documents and the vehicle together, as one job.

For transport by air, see the “Air transport” page.

How a journey works

We plan every journey in advance, so that there are no surprises on the way, for the driver or for the family.

  1. The route

We choose the road and the border crossing depending on the distance, the season and where in Ukraine the deceased needs to be taken.

  2. The vehicle

For a short journey, a standard closed interior; for a long one or in hot weather, an interior with refrigeration.

  3. Documents in the vehicle

The driver carries the full set: the death certificate, the permit to take the body out of the country, the certificate of no prohibited items legalised by the Ukrainian consulate, and the documents from the country of death.

  4. Collecting the deceased

From the hospital, morgue or another place abroad, at the agreed time. The coffin is already hermetic and under official seal.

  5. The journey

We stay in touch with the family the whole way.

  6. The border

Customs clearance is the driver's job. How it works is explained on the “Road transport” page.

  7. Handover

We bring the deceased to the place we agreed: home, a church, a farewell hall or the cemetery.

Transport for relatives

On the day of the funeral, the family often needs to get from home to the church, from the church to the cemetery and then to the memorial meal, especially if relatives have come from other towns or from abroad. We provide a bus with a driver who knows the order of the ceremony and never rushes.

  • Transfers from the home, church or farewell hall to the cemetery and back.
  • Journeys anywhere in Ukraine.
  • Stops wherever you wish; we agree the route in advance.
  • Can be booked together with a hearse or on its own.

The price of a transfer is worked out separately: it depends on the number of people, the distance and the time. Call us and we will work it out straight away.

Loading: with care and without haste

The moment that needs the most care is when the coffin is carried out of the morgue or chapel and placed in the vehicle. We use hydraulic trolleys and coffin covers, so that everything is done calmly and with dignity.

A hearse for the ceremony

Once the deceased is home, different transport is needed for the farewell. The hearse takes the coffin from the home or farewell hall to the church, and then to the cemetery. For relatives and guests we provide a bus. We agree the route, the stops and the time with the family in advance.

A hearse and transport for relatives can be booked on their own or together with funeral arrangements anywhere in Ukraine.

A hearse across Ukraine. We provide a hearse in any city. The hearse fare to the venue depends on the address, and we confirm the amount before the hearse sets off. And when we bring the body from abroad, transport to any city in Ukraine is already included in the price. Tell us the address, the date and the time, and we will agree the route and the price before we set off.

Questions about transport

Is the interior where the coffin travels clean?

Yes. It is cleaned each time the vehicle returns. The coffin is secured on the loading deck and, where needed, covered, so that it arrives in good order.

Do you have vehicles with refrigeration?

Yes, our fleet includes vehicles with refrigeration in the interior. We use them for long journeys, in warm weather and when the deceased has not been embalmed.

How much does the transport cost?

The price depends on the country, the city and the documents. The “from” prices for the whole journey home are on the “Prices” page. We will tell you the exact amount when we speak.

When can the vehicle collect the deceased?

When the morgue or hospital releases the deceased: every facility has its own hours. We agree the time with them and tell you when the vehicle will be there.

Can wreaths and flowers go in the vehicle?

Yes, as long as they do not stop us from securing the coffin safely. Let us know in advance and we will make room in the interior.

Can we book just a hearse for the funeral?

Yes. We provide a hearse for the funeral itself and for transport between cities anywhere in Ukraine. What it costs to bring the hearse to the venue depends on the address, and we name the amount before departure. When we bring the body from abroad, delivery to any city in Ukraine is already included in the price. A bus for relatives can be booked separately. Call us and we will agree the time and the route.

Do you move the deceased within Ukraine, from another city or from a hospital?

Yes. A hearse can be booked for transport between cities in Ukraine: from a hospital or morgue to the family's home, to a church or to a cemetery in another city. We agree the distance and the time in advance and work out the price. For more, see the article “How to move the deceased to another city in Ukraine”.

How will I know where the vehicle is?

We stay in touch the whole way: we tell you when the vehicle has set off, when it is at the border and when it will be in your town. Message or call us at any time.
